AC Milan (1st)
Similar to Napoli last season, AC Milan will only play one game per week. Max Allergri is the second most decorated manager in Serie A history and is taken to fix AC Milan’s defensive weakness.
10 of the last 12 Max Allegri coached teams have averaged less than 1 goal conceded per-game across the season.
AC MIlan have had a super transfer market overall with over £150 Million in sales generated. Ricci, Jashari, De Winter, Estipinian, Modric and Victor Boniface have all been added to the roster and Milan have also fended off interest from Chelsea for Scudetto winning Goalkeeper Mike Maignan. Alexis Saelemaekers has also returned from his loan period at AS Roma.
Star forward Rafa Leao could be reborn under Max Allegri and had a decent pre-season. Christian Pulisic has bagged 20 goal contributions back to back in Serie A and the USA International looks and looks primed at 26 to challenge for Player of the Year should AC Milan land Scudetto.
Napoli (2nd)
Antonio Conte won the Serie A league title in year one with Juventus (2010/2011) , Chelsea (2016/ 2017) and Napoli (2024/2025) football.
One game per week was Conte’s trump card last season but this season Napoli must play Champions League football midweek whilst defending a Serie A. This seems all very intense under an Antonio Conte regime.
Romelu Lukaku will miss the opening 3 months of the season through injury! Only one player in Serie A (Retegui) had more goal contributions than Romelu Lukaku last season (14 Goals & 10 Assists).
Don’t underestimate his loss.
Players to watch: Lorenzo Lucca (Goals) Milinkovic Savic (Clean Sheets) Boungiorno (Clean Sheets)
Roma (3rd)
Roma won 15 of their final 20 games (Serie A) with the best defence in that period. The Giallorossi won 8 points more than Champions Napoli in 2025.
Roma begin with an attractive set of opening fixtures with Bologna (H), Pisa (A), Torino (H), Verona (H), Sassuolo (A) all within the first 2 months.
Gian Pedro Gasperini has a terrific record of developing young talent whilst playing an attacking brand of football. 6 x Top 4 finishes in 9 years with Atalanta would indicate that a very exciting project may only just be getting started in the capital city.
Exciting young additions such as Wesley, Ghilardi, Al Aynaoui & Evan Ferguson could all make a big impact this season alongside Matthias Soule, Manu Kone & Mile Svilar who kept 16 clean sheets (Joint Top) with only 2 Goalkeepers making more saves last season (Serie A).
Champions League qualification looks a very real possibility.
Players to watch: Matias Soule (Assists) Evan Ferguson (Goals) & Mile Svilar (Saves)
Juventus (4th)
Juventus haven’t challenged for Scudetto in over 5 years.
Hindered by financial fair-play, The Old Lady are paying the price for a failed project under Thiago Motta. Antonio Conte rejected a managerial move to Juventus this summer and Igor Tudor will continue to take charge in Turin. The Croatian lacks elite level managerial experience to compete for Scudetto.
Stength and depth in central defence and central midfield could prove problematic playing twice per week. All things considered Juventus look set for another season in transition.
Players to watch: Kenan Yildiz (Assists) Jonathan David (Goals) & Khephren Thuram
Inter Milan (5th)
Inter Milan had the oldest squad in Serie A last season (Avg. Age 29 yo)
Christian Chivu is still a novice in managerial terms and the Romanian takes over an aging Inter Milan squad who reached their peak two seasons ago . Inter went trophyless last season after four terrific seasons under Simone Inzaghi but the Nerazurri are starting to look exposed.
Failure to secure top transfer targets such as Ademola Lookman and Manu Kone is disappointing for Inter fans and a summer bust-up between experienced comrades Lautaro and Hakan Calhanoglu would be a worry moving forward.
Last season there was a significant drop off defensively compared to Inzanghi’s 2023/2024 campaign. Starters such as Sommer, Darmian, Acerbi, De Vrij are all aged 33yo+.
Inter could struggle to qualify for Champions League.
Player to watch: Petar Susic, Denzil Dumfries (Assists) & Marcus Thuram
Como (6th)
Cesc Fabregas turned down the chance to replace Simone Inzaghi at Inter Milan electing to continue his exciting project with Como 1907.
Como bolted towards the back end of last season with 6 wins from their concluding 8 matches (April – May). Fearless in attack, the likes of Nico Paz, Assane Diao, Jesus Rodriguez, Nicholas Kuhn, Martin Baturina & Jayden Addai have all lit up pre-season.
The lombardy side appear hungry for success and could continue to grow together under Cesc.
Alvaro Morata looks shrewd piece of business and Como could suprise plenty this season.
Player to watch: Nico Paz,Jayden Addai, & Perrone
Lazio (7th)
Maurizio Sarri has unfinished business at Lazio after departing Rome in March 2024.
Only Inter Milan and Atalanta scored more goals than Lazio last season and only Atalanta won more games away (P19 W11). Taty Castellanos suffered an interrupted campaign with injury last season but still managed to bag 10 Serie A League goals. If the Argentine can stay 100% fit, he could be a Golden Boot Dark Horse (25/1). Argentina could also come calling for World Cup 2026.
No player averaged more shots per 90 minutes than Taty Castellanos last season and Lazio create plenty of chances.
Bologna winning the Coppa Italia resulted in Lazio missing out on Europe, but playing one game per week will help Lazio equal / surpass last year’s league finish (7th).
Player to watch: Castellanos (Shots + Goals) Rovella (Cards) Nuno Tavarez (Assists)
Fiorentina (8th)
Once again, the UEFA Conference League will be priority for Fiorentina.
New manager Stefano Pioli is a Scudetto winning manager (21/22) and the Tuscans have a strong Italian spine. Moises Kean scored 19 goals in Serie A last season but may struggle to equal last year’s exceptional return. Squad depth could impact Fiorentina come April / March.
Player to watch: Simon Sohm, Jacopo Fazzini, Albert Gudmundsson
Atalanta (9th)
After 9 tremendous seasons under coach Gian Pedro Gasperini, Atalanta came away with the Europa League (23/24) and finished Top 4 in 6 of the last 9 nine campaigns.
We could now see a significant drop off!
Last season, Retegui was Serie A top scorer (25 goals) and Atalanta had the highest XG in the league. Under Gasperini, Atalanta ranked Top 2 (Serie A) for big chances created in 6 of the last 7 seasons.
Replacing Retegui & Lookman (40 League Goals 24/25) will be mega tough but expect Atalanta to create plenty of chances for new signing Nikola Krystovic who could also be an e/w dark horse at 33/1 for Serie A Golden Boot.
Coach Ivan Juric has big shoes to fill but has plenty of Serie A experience.
Player to watch: Nikola Krystovic (Shots + Goals)
Bologna (10th)
Sold best players for two seasons on the bounce. Expected to struggle to compete on both European and domestic fronts under Vicenzo Italiano this season. Quality and depth looks a concern.
Player to watch: Orsolini (Goals + Assists)
