4.10 Thurles – Chesterfield King (28/1) 4pt ew

Always a bit risky going for a horse having his 3rd run in a beginners chase but the fact of the matter is there is only one meeting on tomorrow and my hand is forced to come up with something at Thurles. This horse was running on very well prior to falling at Naas (track not too dissimilar to Thurles) and went off at 11/1 for a beginners chase that on paper was stronger than this. Assuming he’s given his fair shot I think he’s definitely the 4th best horse in the race after Myth Buster, Max Dynamite & Dortmund park. At the guts of 4/1 a place I fancy him to possibly upset one of those. Again the mission is simple, hit the frame and we’re in clover. This is my 8 points to play victory lap. Although the stands are empty due to social rules distancing so I’m not receiving the acclaim I deserve. It’s like Liverpool parading the Premier League trophy in front of the tea lady at Anfield.

A lot of talk about Colm Finlay being a runaway leader of this 8 points to play and being the realist I am, it’s going to take something special for that to change. However at the moment, I must be going under the radar as a shrewd ‘betting without the fav’ option, with Simply the Betts confirming an all round SOLID week at Cheltenham. I’ll keep chipping away where I can but would interested in a price in the ‘Without Finlay’ market about myself.

3.40 Thurles – At Your Ease (14/1) 2pt ew

This Arthur Moore trained gelding is in here off a mark of 113. Now he has won a maiden hurdle and Beginners Chase in Ireland already and the majority that can do that tend to become better animals than low 110s. Given his connections, you probably will know your fate given market support/or lack of, close to post time – but I’m willing to give this guy a chance after running well for a long way on recent return. He should strip a lot sharper for that outing and could be in the shake up here.

4.10 Thurles – Myth Buster (13/8) 4pt win

Simply put, this horse has the best Chase form in this race by a mile. His close 3rd behind Easy Game and Allaho over Christmas is a top piece of form with the two mentioned being decent Grade 1/2 animals. He was highly tried last time in the Flogas last time but this is a drop to a lot more calmer seas. If Dortmund Park was to return to any sort of form – he would have a chance but he doesn’t look himself of late so would be willing to swerve. On Chasing exploits, he holds the rest of these and I would be extremely disappointed if he doesn’t open his account over the larger obstacles.

2.40 Thurles – Railway Tommy (33/1) 1pt ew

As Colm thinks he has one hand on the 8pts to play trophy already i think we could start putting a bit of doubt in his mind if I keep chipping away as I have been the last couple of weeks I’ve even changed his name in my phone to bullet train he was Frankel’s full brother who was used as a pace maker for him so I know what I’ve to aim at at the top of the leaderboard. I’ll have 1pt ew Railway Tommy. Small bit of a Hail Mary to start with but the 12yo was rated 120 in his prime although that being a while ago. Now off 84 and claiming another 7lbs off his back he might have a squeak in a very poor race.

3.10 Thurles – Dunvegan (6/1) 2pt win

Has a bit to find with Zero Ten but I think the 2 furlongs extra might do that also getting 6lbs off the favourite Sizing Potsie.

2.10 Thurles – Mary Francis (2/1) 4pt win

Done it well at Punchestown, Eoin Walsh takes a handy 7lbs off which leaves her well in on official ratings but the big thing is that she has winning form lately which can’t be said for most of these.

3.10 Thurles – Dunvegan (6/1) 4pt ew

140 rated hurdler who receives 6Ibs from favourite Sizing Pottsie. Conditions and track should be to Dunvegan’s liking and can step forward to reverse form with Zero Ten. Looks great each way value in a 9 runner contest. Leighlinbridge trainer won with Castlegrace Paddy at Navan last weekend.

Jason Kiely - ProfileJason Kiely #8PointstoPlay score: +1.5pts

4.40 Thurles – Vartry Avenue (11/2)  4pt ew

Excellent run first time out when only beaten a few lengths in a Naas bumper, passing a good few horses in the run in. If she was trained by Gordon Elliot she would be favourite so I think this is a nice price. That experience will surely have thought her a lot and the fact she has had a run will give her an advantage even though this looks a strong enough race.

The Rooster - ProfileThe Rooster #8PointstoPlay score: -20pts

3.40 Thurles – Une Lavandiere (14/1)  4pt ew

Possible winner here at big odds with the trip and drying ground to suit for the Hassett team and 7lb claimed in good form.

Alan DoyleAlan Doyle #8PointstoPlay score: -33pts

3.10 Thurles – Dunvegan (6/1) 8pt win

Recorded a very decent time figure in Punchestown on soft ground in December and can overturn Zero Ten here on ground that he will favour.

Ronan GroomeRonan Groome #8PointstoPlay score: -75.37pts

3.10 Thurles – Capuccimix (6/1) 5pt win

Always a big fan of this Henry de Bromhead-trainer chaser who may have his act together now following a smooth success at Naas last time. Prior to that he came off second best only to Grand Annual winner Chosen Mate and the way he travelled into the race on his chase debut at Navan earlier in the season screamed of a classy operator – he found only Cash Back too good there. Soft ground and this trip look perfect and although it’s a deep race, a price of around 6/1 looks fair.

2.40 Thurles – Goulane Jessie (6/1)  3pt win

The favourite Johnny Little Legs is respected but Goulane Jessie represents a more solid option over this trip and ground. Her last two runs over hurdles have been really good and she showed at Fairyhouse she can get into the business end of this sort of mark.
