Wednesday belonged to #8PointstoPlay blogger and podcast regular Jason Kiely as his beloved Easysland landed the Cross Country Chase to give connections a memorable day. As we enter Thursday of Cheltenham, the #8PointstoPlay tipping blog currently sits 14.44 points in profit for 19/20.
Barry Doyle (champ.ie), Colm Finlay (BetXS), Ronan Groome (The Irish Field), Andrew Blair White (Blair White’s Blog), Thomas Coyle (Trainer), Jason Kiely (Sporting Life), Alan Doyle (Aldorithm) & The Rooster go at it again.

3.30 Cheltenham – Ronald Pump (20/1) 4pt ew
Ronald Pump is a horse who’s probably held an ante post price for about 8 different races over both hurdles and fences throughout the seasons but has now found himself here in the Stayers Hurdle. I think he has a lot of talent as a horse and this could be one of the placements of the season if he somehow even manages to hit the frame here. Fact of the matter is beyond the favourite they are not really that strong a bunch. I’m nearly certain he’ll finish in front of The other Irish horses in the race. If he does that a top 3 finish is in the cards and we are in clover. I do think he has real ability though so a shock is not completely out of the question but this is an each way play against the odds on favourite.

3.30 Cheltenham – City Island (11/1) 4pt ew
Last year’s Ballymore winner has experienced a hard time of it over fences. We might see some spark when reverting back to hurdles at a track he seemed to enjoy. Trained in the right hands. Solid each way play against Paisley Park.
Andrew Blair White #8PointstoPlay score: +6.43pts
4.10 Cheltenham – Simply The Betts (7/2) 8pt win
Class horse in the race who’s form couldn’t be working out better from the last day. He comes here off a competitive mark and should take all the beating.
Barry Doyle #8PointstoPlay score: +4.5pts
2.10 Cheltenham – The Storyteller (11/2) 3pt ew
Rated 16Ibs lower over hurdles than over fences, The Storyteller sidestepped this engagement last season due to a controversial mark given by the British handicapper. Qualified for this year’s race after sneaking into 6th place at Leopardstown over Christmas. Handicap bet of the week.
4.10 Cheltenham – Deyrann De Carjac (10/1) 1pt win
132 rated hurdler who has taken well to fences this season. 6 lengths third to Champ at Newbury is solid form. Alan King’s 7yo is already proven on soft ground and jumps like a professional. Appears to have been held back for this and can progress past a rating of 145.
4.10 Cheltenham – Siruh Du Lac (14/1) 1pt win
Last year’s Brown Advisory winner comes in here 9Ibs higher. A below par effort at the November meeting saw Lizzie Kelly pull up when sent off joint favourite for the Bet Victor Gold Cup. Generally an exceptional jumper, I expected Siruh Du Lac to contest graded races this term. Has gone well fresh before and should make it a strong test if on his A-Game.

2.50 Cheltenham – A Plus Tard (7/4) 8pt win
Ticks all the boxes here as a course winner while also beating Chacun Pour Soi during the Leopardstown Christmas festival over 2m1f. Comes here fresh after being pulled out of the DRF due to ground concerns but there will be no such worry this time.
Thomas Coyle #8PointstoPlay score: -24.12pts
2.10 Cheltenham – Sire Du Berlais (8/1) 1pt ew
Won the race last year looks like he’s been geared towards this. Blinkers on for the first time also.
4.10 Cheltenham – Blazer (14/1) 1pt ew
Has run some nice races in big handicaps the last twice. After a year long break could be of interest in this.
4.50 Cheltenham – Milan Native (11/1) 2pt ew
Zero wins in five chase starts but two good seconds. Rob James is a top class point to point rider and claims 7Ibs in this, which will be of huge benefit in a race like the Kim Muir.
The Rooster #8PointstoPlay score: -40pts
2.50 Cheltenham – The Storyteller (11/2) 8pt win
Hurdle rating much lower than chasing mark. Should be another winner for the Elliott team.
Ronan Groome #8PointstoPlay score: -64.87pts
4.10 Cheltenham – Simply The Betts (7/2) 3pts win
Form franked seriously by Imperial Aura and course and distance winner has to go close again.
2.10 Cheltenham – Kilbricken Storm (18/1) 2pts win
Former Albert Bartlett winner over this course and distance and has tumbled down to a very attractive mark.
5:30 Cheltenham – Champagne Platinum (4/1) 2pts win
Eyecatching last time in Grade 1 behind Itchy Feet and could be a big improver up in trip.
