#8PointstoPlay – Saturday Tipping Challenge – 22nd February

Leaderboard 22nd Feb

Last weekend was the #8PointstoPlay blog’s toughest week of the season. Extremely testing conditions across all cards made it difficult for punters to find winners.

Once again, Barry Doyle (champ.ie), Colm Finlay (BetXS), Ronan Groome (The Irish Field), Andrew Blair White (Blair White’s Blog), Thomas Coyle (Trainer), Jason Kiely (Sporting Life), Alan Doyle (Aldorithm) & The Rooster all lock horns.

Racing tips from Kempton and Fairyhouse. Colm Finlay sits on top on +136.5 pts

2:17 Fairyhouse – Anna Bunina (7/1) 8pts win

The favorite for Gordon Elliot looks to have won one of the poorest Juveile hurdle races ran this year in Naas. There was three 100/1 shots in the first 5 and none where beaten by more than 15L or so. I can’t really have him. The top of the Willie Mullins bunch betting wise I get the feeling Paul Townend could have thrown a dart and randomly selected one and Willie Mullins would happily admit juvenile hurdlers not his A game (1 Triumph hurdle win in 30 years of trying) Bajan Excel slightly worries me and I would definitely consider him a danger at the prices. The horse I’ve landed on is called Anna Bunina for John C McConnell. As a filly she gets 3lb off the top two. She also beat Wold Prince on her final start on the flat (Wolf Prince been trading it at the deep end of Irish Juvenile hurdlers so far this year) She had a nice introduction at Musselburgh and UK Juvenile form I have a fair bit ahead of the Irish stuff. Winner 4 times on the flat in 2019 and has finished 2nd 3 times as well. She ended up getting as high as 93 too so she knows how to get her head in front and is not shy in a battle.

2.45 Newcastle – Financial Outcome (9/1) – 1 Pt Win

The Elderis always an extremely tricky race to decipher but I’ve decided to side with an improving horse in the case f Financial Outcome. Having hacked up at Doncaster two starts ago, he made a race ending mistake at the third last time out , and still managed to plug on for 3rd. He shapes that this extreme test could be something to interest him and I’m willing to take a chance.

4.30 Newcastle – The Paddy Pie  (5/1) – 3 Pt Win

This is a competitive handicap chase but this horse is becoming extremely well handicapped and can’t be dismissed. He has won and placed off higher marks than the 120 he runs off today and has a lovely racing weight. He was bang in contention when falling at 2 out last time and hasn’t been raised for that effort, which I think is lenient. Sue Smith has a good record at the track and I can ee this horse returning to winning ways.

3.35 Kempton – Double Shuffle (11/1)  2pt win

This horse is a Kempton specialist and has always managed to put in career best efforts over this type of C&D. He was second in this race last year off 4 pounds higher and he screams to be a very well in horse at this time. I would say his two previous runs this year have been gearing him up for another crack at a race like this at Kempton and I can see him running huge.

2.25 Kempton – Quick Grabim (14/1) 1pt ew

This Kingwell Hurdle is as flimsy a Grade 2 as you’re ever going to see and I wouldn’t put it past there be an upset. Quick Grabim is a former Grade 1 winner from last season for Willie Mullins and makes his second start for Fergal O’Brien here. He was well beat in the Christmas Hurdle but I’m taking a punt that he may come on a lot for that run and he’s running against Handicappers here. Too big a price to not have a go.

1.50 Kempton – Fujimoto Flyer (7/4)  8pt win

Excellent win in the autumn in Auteuil, bolting up in a hugely competitive listed race by 9 lengths. Finishing behind her that day were multiple grade winners down to fifth position.  Should absolutely love the ground and I can’t see her being beaten.

2.52 Kempton –  Millen To One (11/1)  1pt ew

Good second in Leopardstown two runs back not a great race. Carries a light weight here and could bounce back.

3.35 Kempton – Dashing Perk (11/1) 1pt ew

Looks a better chaser than hurdler lightweight De Boinville booked could have a squeak.

3.02 Kempton- West Cork (6/1) 4pts win

Drop to two mile seems to be working. Skelton runner has the favorite to beat but at the price I’ll take a chance on him.
