Aintree 14:20 – Top Novices’ Hurdle (2m)
This is a really interesting contest with three novices reappearing after their exploits around Cheltenham in the Supreme (Aramon, Felix Desjy and Itchy Feet).
I was on the wrong Willie Mullins horse in the Supreme, having backed Aramon that morning just after his trainer was interviewed on the Morning Show, explaining that Aramon wouldn’t have an issue with the good ground while Klassical Dream needed the rain which duly came.
It was a seriously impressive performance by Klassical Dream, with Itchy Feet five lengths back in 3rd and Felix Desjy and Aramon well held back in 5th and 6th respectively.
Aramon has been ridden held up in his last four starts and I think the way this race will develop will suit Aramon perfectly. Southfield Stone and Rouge Vif are likely to take each other on early and this could fall into Ruby’s lap. Ruby’s mount seems to travel quite well through his races and I can see him being ridden patiently out the back, slowly getting him into contention all the way down the long Aintree home straight.
I wouldn’t mind the soft ground as I think that should help a hold up horse get into the race and without a wall of horses to navigate, he should have the better of Felix Desjy this time, as he did in Navan when beating that field comfortably.
Southfield Stone has done all his winning on good ground whereas Rouge Vif seems to like it soft so I can see Rouge Vif putting in a decent performance too.
The biggest danger to Aramon could be Itchy Feet who was quietly fancied for the Supreme while Nicky Henderson has a fantastic record in this race and he brings one of his new recruits, Precious Cargo, coming off the back of two easy wins in class 4 novice hurdle company. We all know what Nicky Henderson is capable of so I wouldn’t be surprised if he delivers again when it counts but I’m staying loyal to Aramon once more.

Weatherby’s Racing Bank NHF Race
I really liked the way Blackhillsofdakota won his listed bumper in Limerick last weekend and I fancy this son of Galileo to continue to progress in the Grade 2 bumper.

Betway Mildmay Novices Chase
Topofthegame will surely go off odds on favourite in the Mildmay Novices Chase and he looks a serious horse for next year, although I wouldn’t be surprised if Lostintranslation looks a different horse going 3 miles for the first time.
JLT Chase (Melling Chase)
While in the Melling Chase, the top three in the betting (Min, Politologue and Waiting Patiently) would seem to have it between them. I don’t fancy anything too strongly at the prices but am keen to see Waiting Patiently return to his best form again.
