Remember the days of Hedgehunter? Well this time up for Willie Mullins, Pairofbrowneyes will be one of four Aintree Grand National runners for the 2005 winning trainer. The 2019 Leinster National winner will be licking his lips with the thoughts of more rain on the Aintree horizon.
The going at Liverpool is now good to soft, soft in places following 10mm of rain overnight and more of the same weather expected throughout Wednesday and Thursday.
Ex -Barry Murphy trained Pairofbrowneyes will be having his sixth start for WP Mullins on Saturday and he will technically start the Aintree Grand National as the best handicapped runner in the field (following victory at Naas last month).
Now rated 146 and penciled down to carry 10,6Ibs on his back, on paper Pairofbrowneyes appears to have the perfect Aintree portfolio. Built like a brickhouse this 10yo son of Luso looks tailor made to tackle Aintree fences and may be still on an upward trajectory!
Closely related to some stout stayers such as Master Of The Hall (IRE) and Sound Man (IRE), expect Pairofbrowneyes to race with prominence. With over 20 career chase starts to his name and experience racing in large fields and cauldron type atmospheres, this should all stand in his favour come the big day!
Although Mullins jockey bookings haven’t yet been confirmed, Gold Cup winning jockey Paul Townend may look to Pairofbrowneyes for tabling a bid to land the Gold Cup / Aintree National double in one season. Townend already has a close relationship with the horse and could be very tempted to stay loyal.
