Red Force One (8/1) Adonis Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 2) – 14:25 Kempton
The 2018/2019 English juveniles haven’t been a vintage crop of 4yo’s. Saturday’s Adonis (Grade 2) hurdle at Kempton is an open affair with the first and second in the betting only making their British debuts.
At the current prices a chance is taken on 89 rated flat horse (stays 10.5f) Red Force One for Paul Nicholls. Not the first choice of stable jockey Harry Cobden, however a recent close second at Kempton on the flat 13 days ago proves the horse’s well-being.
Entered in the Triumph Hurdle on the Friday of Cheltenham. Trainer has an impressive record with Juveniles first time out.
Scarlet Dragon (10/3) Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) – 15:00 Kempton
After struggling to settle in hurdle races last term, Scarlet Dragon is back again this season looking for a second bite at the cherry.
A talented flat performer, Alan King’s 6yo holds an entry for the Supreme Novice Hurdle two weeks from now and he is taken to upset well touted Angels Breath here.
It’s hard to knock Angels Breath on his sole start over timber. Saying that, Scarlet Dragon may be underestimated on what he’s achieved at Huntingdon, good ground at Kempton and sharp terrain is sure to suit again.
King’s horse raced like a maniac 13 days ago but he won the day despite failing to drop his head until for a entire circuit. Scarlet Dragon’s jumping also impressed me at Huntingdon and he may prove good value to overturn the favourite over 2m!
Alan King on Scalet Dragon “He has a lot of ability and was runner-up here 12 months ago when making his jumping debut, and this looks the perfect race to give him more of the necessary experience which he will need if he is going to head off to Cheltenham for the Supreme.”
