When you think of most major sporting events such as the Champions League or iconic sport stars like Conor McGregor, you sometimes have a theme song associated with the event or entrance music to get the fans pumped. Well horse racing and Cheltenham is no different.

This week is the Olympics of horse racing, the Cheltenham Festival 2017 is on the doorstep and us racing fans feel like children before Christmas. We’ve decided to get festive ourselves and we’ve ranked the best racing anthems to get you in the mood for an unbelievable weeks racing. Enjoy lads!

BRONZE – DAWN RUN by Foster & Allen

The immortal Paddy Mullins trained Dawn Run was the most successful race mare in National Hunt history. She was the only horse to complete Champion Hurdle and Gold Cup double. Foster and Allen described her as a “Magic mare” in their song tribute released in 1993.

SILVER – DANOLI by Richie Kavanagh

Danoli was your perfect example of a training success for the small man. Trained by Tom Foley near a little Co.Carlow rural village called Myshall, Danoli captured the imagination of the public when going unbeaten in Ireland before winning what we now call the Neptune Novices Hurdle. Carlow artist Richie Kavanagh pays tribute.

 

GOLD- KAUTO STAR by Mark Boylan

Kauto Star needs no introduction, arguably the best steeplechaser we’ve ever seen. Kauto won two Gold cups and five King George’s. Offaly teenager Mark Boylan highlights emotionally his “Drive for five King George’s for a place in history “. Released in 2012 this one is bound to give you the goosebumps ahead of the festival.

My Lovely Horse – by Fr Ted Crilly & Fr Dougal McGuire

In the episode “A Song for Europe” Ted and Dougal bravely enter the Eurovision song contest and manage to pip Fr Dick Byrne to represent Ireland.
