Nicholls Ready For Showtime

Nicholls ReadyMoon Racer, Tiger Roll and Rock the World are just a few familiar names to have won at Cheltenham’s Showcase meeting prior to following it up with Festival success at the same venue in March.

Sceau Royal (5/4) has been popular and heads the market for today’s feature ( Novices’ Chase (2.35pm), won last season by the Paul Nicholls trained Maracuja. Movewiththetimes (15/8) represents the same trainer and was listed in the 10  Jumper’s To Follow earlier this week.Sceau Royal won at this meeting last season and won on chase debut at Warwick however conceding 4Ibs to the Nicholls runner, who has been touted an Arkle contender before even jumping a fence might prove a stiff ask.

Movewiththetimes’s career best came when finishing second to Ballyandy in the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury last February where the pair pulled a long way clear of the field. You can hardly judge the subsequent form based on Ballyandy’s blowout in the Supreme and he himself is high in betting for all the big novice chase races in March. Clearly a high class animal Movewiththetimes appears to be made for chasing and he can get off the mark at Cheltenham today.

Selecting potential over proven ability doesn’t usually prove profitable but factoring in the Nicholls history with novice chasers, proven ability to have them fit first time up along with excellent record at this meeting, its seems justifiable to side with Movewiththetimes. With plenty of unknowns involved, the usual health warnings do apply.

Also keep an eye on:

5:30 – 2m Hcp Conditional’s Hurdle

Dreamcatching (6/1) – Paul Nicholls trained Old Guard to victory here in 2015. With a similar profile the 4yo son of Al Namix looks to have a solid chance of replicating the same feat carrying top weight with Sam Sheppard claiming 3Ibs off.

It all appeared too much for Dreamcatching in bumpers at the beginning of last season but he seemed to mature landing two easier affairs in the spring. On an upward curve it’s very likely he’ll run well.

Movewiththetimes – 2/1 (Paddy Powers) 14:35- 2 pt win

Dreamcatching – 6/1 (Boylesports) 17:30- 1 pt ew
